A couple of months ago, I visited Daraz.com; (The largest e-commerce brand in Bangladesh) on my PC. After browsing, I accidentally closed the tab. When I re-visit the site, I noticed I was logged out. When I re-entered the credentials for login, I saw no “remember me “button on that page. When visiting the site every time, I had to submit my login credentials. I got really frustrated because it was not the first time this happened to me. That leads me to question if this issue is also prevalent among others. If so, What changes can be made to resolve it? At this point, I decided to conduct some user research & explore the insights into why they don’t have that feature and what the consumers will benefit from having this.

Abstract:

This case study aims to explore the potential reasons behind the absence of a “Remember Me” button on Daraz.com.bd’s login page, its impact on user experience, and suggestions for improvement. We will delve into the security, user engagement, and potential design considerations that could have led to this decision and evaluate the significance of these factors.

Without “Remember Me” button

Introduction

Daraz.com.bd is a prominent e-commerce platform in Bangladesh that offers a wide range of products and services. A key aspect of any e-commerce platform is its user experience (UX), which can determine the platform’s success. One common UX feature found in many platforms is the “Remember Me” button, which allows users to save their login credentials for easy access in future sessions. However, Daraz.com.bd does not include this feature on its login page, prompting questions about the rationale behind this decision.

1. Security Concerns

Security concerns could be a primary reason for the absence of a “Remember Me” button. While the feature provides users convenience, it can also introduce security risks. If a user’s device is lost, stolen, or accessed by an unauthorized individual, saved credentials may be exploited to gain unauthorized access to the user’s account. This is particularly concerning for e-commerce platforms involving financial information and transactions.

2. User Engagement

Another potential reason for not including a “Remember Me” button is to encourage users to engage with the platform actively. The platform can collect more accurate user activity and preferences data by requiring users to enter their credentials during each session. [Somebody] can use this data to optimize the platform and provide a more personalized experience for users.

3. Design and Aesthetic Considerations

The design and aesthetics of a login page play a crucial role in the overall UX. It is possible that the decision to exclude the “Remember Me” button was based on simplifying the login process and maintaining a clean, uncluttered interface. A minimalistic approach can make the login process more straightforward and visually appealing, improving user experience.

Recommendations

Based on the analysis, we recommend that Daraz.com.bd consider the following steps:

  • Evaluate the security risks associated with a “Remember Me” button and determine if its convenience outweighs the potential risks.
  • Implement additional security measures, such as two-factor authentication to minimize security risks while incorporating the “Remember Me” feature.
  • Collect user feedback and analyze user behavior to determine if the lack of a “Remember Me” button negatively impacts user satisfaction and engagement.
With “Remember Me” button

Conclusion

The absence of a “Remember Me” button on Daraz.com.bd’s login page may stem from security concerns, user engagement considerations, and design preferences. While the feature can provide a more convenient user experience, weighing its potential risks and benefits is essential. By evaluating these factors and considering user feedback, Daraz.com.bd can make informed decisions regarding including a “Remember Me” button and improve its overall user experience.
